The Chauvet Cave was discovered in the Ardeche, France. The cave is 400 meters long. The two major parts of the cave were used in different ways by artists. In the first part, a majority of images are red, with few black or engraved ones. In the second part, the animals are mostly black, with far fewer engravings and red figures.

White: chalk (calcium carbonate)
Subject Matter?
14th-century BC Great Royal Wife (chief consort) of the Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaten of the Eighteenth dynasty of Egypt
Elements of Design?
The face is completely symmetrical and almost intact, but the left eye lacks the inlay present in the right. The pupil of the right eye is of inserted quartz with black paint and is fixed with beeswax. The background of the eye-socket is unadorned limestone. Nefertiti wears her characteristic blue crown known as "Nefertiti cap crown" with a golden diadem band, that is looped around like horizontal ribbons and joining at the back, and an Uraeus (cobra) over her brow – which is now broken. She also wears a broad collar with a floral pattern on it. The ears also have suffered some damage. Gardner's Art Through the Ages suggests that "With this elegant bust, Thutmose may have been alluding to a heavy flower on its slender sleek stalk by exaggerating the weight of the crowned head and the length of the almost serpentine neck."

Solidus of Constantius - Brandon Young
Constantanius II was the creator
It was found around the year 350.
Found in Rome.
Solidus of constantius is the title.
The diameter is 2.1 cm
...medium wasByzantine goldgold
The technique was a portrait.
On the coin it is constantius dressed in a military uniform with a lance and a shield on it.
I see order in the fact that the military uniform shows his importance to society
The variety is that this was an emperor so he would not be fighting in the military to begin with.
The piece was made to honor constantinius
It came out about the same time that constantinius II came into rule.
I have seen similar pieces such as the American quarter such things like that which show respect and honor to the great leaders of our history.
I would like to know how he was able to create this because at the time there were not many tools to be able to do such things like this.

A. Plaque of Taotie Face - Alexis Kirkland
The subject matter is that the Plaque of Taotie face is used to represent a one legged monster.
The artist did not use very bright colors. He used bronze.
The element of design is patterns. It is semetrical on both sides.
Unlike other pieces of arts, the plaque of taotie face is dull and boring. The face has a fearful expression on it's face.
It is 21 cm long, and 8inches wide.
The major theme is a monster because Taotie means monster in Chinese.
The color used is bronze
The most please thing about the face of Taotie is that it is very valuable because Bronze is so expensive.
The least pleasing thing about the piece is that it is not very interesting. It is emotionless and dull.
Yes because it is very valuable and it could be worth a lot of money.
The most interesting thing about this piece is the bronze.

VI. Etruscan Art
A. Sarcophagus dei Sposi - Miranda Meyers- is a late 6th century BC Etruscan anthropoid sarcophagus. It is 1.14 m high by 1.9 m wide, and is made of terracotta which was once brightly painted. It is now in the National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia, Rome. comes from the Banditaccia necropolis, Cerveteri. figures of a man and woman, presumably his wife reclining on a triclinium or dining couch presumably eating a meal or having a quiet moment after supper. Both figures are propped up on their left elbow with the man close behind the woman. Both faces share a secret, tender smile. A very similar sarcophagus to this was also found in Cerveteri. They are believed to be by the same artist and date to 520 - 530 BCE. The subject matter is figures of a man and woman, presumably his wife reclining on a triclinium or dining couch presumably eating a meal or having a quiet moment after supper. Both figures are propped up on their left elbow with the man close behind the woman. Both faces share a secret, tender smile.
There is no use of color it's all a terra-cotta color.
The figure is realistic.
Compared to the terra-cotta army they are very similar. They are both realistic and made of the same material. Also they both have order.
The figure was used to hold dead bodies in ancient times.
The theme of the figure could be a couples last memory together.
The figure is a golden terra-cotta color.
The theme of the figure is most pleasing and heart warming.
The least pleasing of this figure is that dead bodies are stored in them.
I would not like to own this because I would want a more modern burial.
You would need terra-cotta to make this.
This would be used in an ancient Egypt times.
I would make this coffin pink.
You would need carving and sculpting skills.
History buffs or art lovers may love this.
I would like to know how long it took to make the coffin.
Love is created in the mood.
The couple laying together show love.
This piece needs to be preserved to keep a part of history.

It was made my Egyptians.
It was created between 6000 - 4500 BC.
They are kept in the Cario Museum.
There is no official title they ere just items made for the Pharaoh.
The size varies
They were mostly made out of gold.
It was made out of various metal works.
Homogist
They are very stylistic because most of them were depictions of gods and have symbolism.
You see it in patterns.
They made various objects.
Because it was part of the burial ceremony.
It doesn't really relate to the environment.
You've really only seen similar objects in grave stones or a staue of a dead person.

C. Deity Holding a Flowing Vase - Thomas Organ
This object's maker is unknown.
They were created in 721-705 b.c. during the reign of Sargon II.
The title is the the Deity Holding a Flower Vase.
They are approximately 151.2 cm high and 45.3 cm wide.
The medium used or what they are made of is molding.
The technique used was also the same technique used on many other deity's.
These statues's are a man with a robe, curly beard, and his arms are crossed; this represents minor deities.
These statues are nearly identical, and they are somewhat realistic.
It relates to the environment in a way that they were man statues that almost look like priests and they are standing in front of a temple. The subject is conveyed because he has a platform on his head that flows from, hence the name "Deity holding a flowing Vase".
I have seen objects like these in Egypt or in Ancient China.
I would like to know who it was and how they made the water flow from the top to the bottom in a continuos cycle.
His reasons for creating this were probably out of design and respect for the temple they were stationed in.

D. Hellenistic Greek Art
A. Homer
Homer - Julia
We don't know who created it. The statue was created in the 8th century during Greek hellenistic time. It is found in the British museum. The name of the statue is Homer and it is the size of a human head. It is made out of marble by the technique of sculpture. This object is a statue of the famous guy named "Homer". The whole statue is in order, it actually looks like a human head from the greek age, so there is no variety. The artist created this to portray a certain human being. It relates to its environment because it is a portrayal of a man from the Greek age. Statues like these are found everywhere, they were very popular in the olden centuries and they are normally of a greek background. http://www.louvre.fr/llv/oeuvres/detail_notice.jsp?CONTENT%3C%3Ecnt_id=10134198673225099&CURRENT_LLV_NOTICE%3C%3Ecnt_id=10134198673225099&CURRENT_LLV_DEP%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474395181112&CURRENT_LLV_DIV%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302024492&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=9852723696500817&bmUID=1124915157839&bmLocale=en

B. Chauvet - Tracy Boudoin
The Chauvet Cave was discovered in the Ardeche in December 1994 by three cave explorers, after removing the rumble of stones that blocked a passage. The cave is 400 meters long. The two major parts of the cave were used in different ways by artists. In the first part, a majority of images are red, with few black or engraved ones. In the second part, the animals are mostly black, with far fewer engravings and red figures. Obvious concentrations of images occur in certain places. The most spectacular images are the Horse Panel and the Panel of Lions and Rhinoceroses. There is no order it is a,l variety because the work is all different rocks. Most of the drawings were designed during the first period and they decided to hang pictures in the cave. It relates to it's enviorment because the caves are made of rocks and the pictures relate to it. I have not seen similar objects anywhere else. I think this is s very unique cave.
The paintings are dominant animals throughout the cave are lions, mammoths, and rhinoceroses. The use of color is a variety of colors with all of the animals and the cave. They design are pictures of animals inside of a cave. There are many different colors and textures. The texture is rough because it is on a cave wall. The paintings are all consisting of animals in the cave. This object is beautiful to look at. I find all objects with animals in them beautiful and pleasant to look at. There is nothing that isn't pleasing about this object. I would not like to own this object because it is extremely large. The thing that I like the most is how beautiful the cave is.
To classify this object you would need rocks and dirt to make a cave. It is a rough texture and mostly dark colors are used. It would be used in an outside envioremnt with people visiting. Mostly dark colors would be used. People who like outdoors and darker colors would enjoy this the most. Caves mostly resemble this cave. You would need artistic skills to create this object. I would like to know how long it would take to create this object. It is a good mood. I would not like to have this object in my house.
This style was used because it was an outside theme. It was used to show all of the beautiful art. It was made of rocks with pictures and art inside of the cave. It relates to the meaning because it is outside and the cave is outside and it relates. The characteristics that make this valuable is the big rocks that the cave is made of and the paintings. Valuable to me is something that means a lot to you and something expensive. I would give this object a high rank

IV. Ancient China
A. Plaque of Taotie Face - Alexis Kirkland
...15. I have not seen similar objects elsewhere. This piece is different in a way that it doesn't really mean anything. It can mean whatever you want it to mean. The important part about this artwork is it's culture, and how it represents the Bronze Age.
16. I would like to know how they got the idea to make this piece of art.
Bronze bull.
It's usually silver.
Time period influence, and the symbol of the bull.
This compared to Jeff Koon's Balloon Dog, is more serious. The hittite bull is a lot older than the balloon dog, too. They both don't have specific meanings behind them.
This object is used to learn how the people of that time viewed art as a whole, and also for entertainment.
There is no major theme behind the Hittite Bull.
Koon's Balloon Dogs' subject was to enjoy, while the Hittite Bull was more serious. Balloon Dog was more new age, which the Hittite Bull was more Bronze Age. Balloon Dog's medium was stainless steel, while the Hittite Bull's medium was bronze.
Some textures are stone, bronze, metal, and silver. Some colors are grey, gold, silver, and dark grey.
The subject of matter of this piece of artwork is a bronze bull, or bull head, by itself.
I think the most pleasing part of this object is it's texture. It's very smooth, yet really detailed.
I find any type of complicated looking animal sculpture very interesting.
I don't like that it does not have a specific meaning behind it. It leaves me wondering why it was made in the first place.
I would not like to own this object because it does not look too attractive, if you'd want to put it in your house it probably wouldn't look good.
What interests me most about this object is that it's made entirely out of bronze and that it represents the bronze age of art.

Solidus of Constantius - Brandon Young
...I have seen similar pieces such as the American quarter such things like that which show respect and honor to the great leaders of our history.
I would like to know how he was able to create this because at the time there were not many tools to be able to do such things like this.
Part 2
The subject matter is constantius and he is being honored.
The color used is gold which shows that it is valuable
The element of design is realistic.
Other work similar to this could be like the American quarter and it is used to honor past leaders.
The object is used as a piece of currency and to honor him.
The difference between this and american coins is this is made from Byzantine gold, the leader is dressed in a military garments and also shows the importance of this man.
The color is gold which shows royalty and importance.
It's his portrait on a coin.
The most pleasing thing is that it honors constantius.
I like how the American money system honors previous leaders.
What is least pleasing about this piece is that it is misshaped
No this is not something I would like to own because it does not have anything to do with my life.
What interests me the most is how they were able to make it with such little tools and technology.
Part 3
Byzantine gold and welding materials.
The color is gold and the texture is different since the coin is engraved.
There are not really lines more of engravings and bumps on it, and I would need gold to reproduce this coin.
The Romans would appreciate it since it resembles their cultures history.
Similar objects are quarters and other coins like that.
The users and appreciators are Romans.
I would like to know about it since it was made so long ago and the lack of technology.
This brings up a respect for the roman culture.
The shield and sword shows the importance.
This object will probably be looked at the same way as it already is in 5-10 years.
No it's just a coin it does not really interesting to me.
I think it may be importance to Roman society but not to any others.
I would probably not display this in my home because there is no significance to me.
Part 4
It was used to show importance of constintinius.
Making a coin was chosen because everyone in roman society will use and admire it.
It is used to honor.
The meaning and function are the same.
They use this as a source of currency and it is used to respect and honor Roman society.
Since this is just him on the coin that is how it is used to relate to the function.
The center of interest is what he is dressed in.
I do not know how this was created.
After he created this coin to honor constintinius since he takes over as ruler.
It relates to other coins in the way it honors people.
What makes this valuable is that it is made of gold.
Valuable means important to society has a use and is worth something.
This object does not represent my views of beauty.
I would put this below what I think is important.
Connor Olivier, two Assyrian officials.
Who creates this object? Unknown.
...The place where I have seen this a culture other where's is in magazines of the ancient cats.

Deity Holding a Flowing Vase - Thomas Organ-
This object's maker is unknown.
I see order in that they are realistic.
I see variety in what they is doing and what they are wearing.
